Frequently Asked Questions about Matching Gifts

What is an employer Matching Gift?

Many companies set aside special funds each year to match contributions their employees make to qualified non-profit organizations. Companies may match contributions dollar for dollar or in some cases triple a donation. Check your companynonprofit community that The Avenue serves.

What do I need to do to get my gift matched?

You as the employee start the process. Contacting your employer to obtain the proper form, complete the form, and mail it to The Avenue. (Mailing address: 91.1 The Avenue, Music that Matters, P.O. Box 578, Green Bay, WI 54305) We will verify that the contribution was received, and that it qualifies for a match. The Avenue then sends the form to your employer for verification. If all of you companye the matching funds to The Avenue.

How can I verify to my company that 91.1 The Avenue can receive charitable contributions?

The Avenue is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We will provide you with 501(c)(3) Non Profit determination letter to complete your matching form.

After I submit the matching gift form, will all my future contributions be matched too?

No they won't. Unfortunately this is a common misconception. You must submit a matching gift form with EACH contribution that you make to The Avenue. Some supporters request several forms at once and then just send one with each donation they make.

Are there restrictions on matching contributions?

Most companies require The Avenue to deduct the fair market value of any thank-you gift you received and will only match the remaining portion of your donation. Most companies also require a minimum contribution to qualify for a match.

Must I be a full-time active employee to have my contributions matched?

Not necessarily! Some companies match gifts from part time employees and retirees, too. Some companies also match gifts from spouses. Check with your HR department.

Is there a time limit on eligibility to get my contribution to The Avenue matched?

Companies do require that The Avenue complete and return the form within a set time period, usually within 90 days ou submit your form to The Avenue at the same time you make your contribution or shortly after.

How important are matching gifts to The Avenue?

They are very important. With matching gifts you are working harder and smarter. Because every gift to The Avenue multiplies out to the greater nonprofit community, a matching gift to The Avenue goes a very long way in meeting the needs of many area nonprofits, including The Avenue.
